Does Nightfall and GWEN require more than Prophecies and Factions?
Hi, I'm running Prophecies and Factions okay on a slightly older PC, and wondering if I can handle Nightfall and GWEN, since I think they require a little more.
I have a Dell Dimension Series 4550 PC with a Intel Pentium processor 2.52 GHz with 533 MHz, running Windows XP, with 768 MB of RAM and a NVIDIA Geforce 4 MX graphics card.
On the www.canirunit.com website, it says I don't even have "pixel and vertex shaders" on my graphics card, so I don't even know what that is. It says without that, I really shouldn't be able to run Prophecies and Factions, but I do just fine so far. Will I even be able to run Nightfall and GWEN from here though?

Geforce 4 MX was some of the worst graphics cards ever made with no support for practically anything.
The really lack needed functions even for alot of 4-5 year old games let alone almost every game out on the market today.
If it is at all possible (Dunno how DELL does it with Guarantees etc) you should replace your graphics card even with some of the cheapest cards out there if you got some money over.
(Then again, a new computer would ofc be better but let's not go there since it's obvious.)

the asuran areas are special, in which they need something extra from your graphics card, so you probably can't go there

The requirements seem to have increased slightly (256mb to 512mb memory, and CPU from 800MHz to 1GHz). Do you guys run on directx 8? That might fix a lot of your shader or whatever errors. If your game runs prophecies, I think it allso will run eotn, you just only need some more HDD space available. Just tuning down your graphics to the absolute minimum and using DX8 will probably do. You can read about DX8 on the official guild wars wiki page.

FYI, a Geforce 4 MX isn't actually a Geforce 4, its just a slightly faster Geforce 2. The Geforce 4 MX is missing the pixel and vertex shaders which are on the Geforce 4 Ti. As to whether you can run EotN or Nightfall, its possible, but you may experience problems. I know some older cards had problems loading specific areas that required a work around.

If I can run it in Linux you can run it on anything.
Just make a guild wars shortcut like this:
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -noshaders -dx8
And you'll be fine. But I don't think you'll need to at all. If you get problems, try that shortcut, if you don't there you go, all happy
